The Australian breed standards were published in 1998 by the Victorian Poultry Fanciers Association Ltd, with the second edition launched in 2012. The Addendum including some of the recently imported breeds was added in 2016.

It is the aim of Exhibition Stud Poultry Australia Inc to provide and properly consider any worthy proposals for the acceptance of a standard of perfection appropriate to any new breed or additional Variety of an already recognised breed, that may be or has been developed within Australia, and where substantiated to recommend that such new breed or additional variety be universally recognised by all Australian State Poultry Bodies, provided always that any such proposal put forward is made in compliance with the by-laws of the organization and recognised by the Poultry Standards Committee.

The Australian Poultry Standards Edition 2 may be purchased from the VPFA website.
